KASBAHS AIT BENHADDOU & OUARZAZATE

Located at the meetingpoint of the valleys of the river Ouarzazate and the river Dades (both from the High Atlas) which form the river Draa downstream from their confluence, it is the nerve center of a vast region of Southern Morocco.
Ouarzazate recalls both the southern foothills of the High Atlas and the proximity of the desert. Its numerous earthbuilt kasbahs, the mountains and the arid plains, the green valleys and the oases, the palm groves and villages made of red or ocher earth, all make the charm of this region and give it its tourist appeal.
The symbol of the city is the Kasbah of Taourirt which belonged to Pacha El Glaoui, it would have been built around the middle of the 18th century. It is represented in the new banknotes of 50 dirhams and is adjacent to the medina, Ait-Ben-Haddou is a small city located in the province of Ouarzazate.
It is a gathering of earthen buildings surrounded by walls, the ksar (fortified village) which is a type of traditional pre-Saharan lodging. The houses are grouped together inside its defensive walls reinforced by corner towers
